LCCPW Mission Statement
La Costa Canyon Pop Warner’s mission is to offer every child the chance to learn, play, and enjoy football and cheerleading, regardless of their abilities. Our aim is to prepare our athletes for high school-level competition, while prioritizing academic excellence through minimum grade requirements for participation. We place the highest importance on sportsmanship, and expect our coaches, players, and parents to uphold our code of conduct.
Non-Profit Organization
La Costa Canyon Pop Warner (LCCPW) is a non-profit organization chartered under the Pop Warner Little Scholars program offering tackle football (ages 8-15), and cheerleading (ages 5-15).
LCCPW’s home field is La Costa Canyon H.S. Maverick Stadium in Carlsbad. Colors are Navy Blue, Forest Green, and Vegas Gold. All teams have a derivative name of Mavericks, the mascot name for the Midget team, and the LCCHS athletic teams.
The Season
Pop Warner season runs from July 15 until mid-November. For Tackle Football and Cheer practices are 5x per week during mid July- mid August, 3x per week in Sep-Nov, plus games every Saturday. Tackle and cheer seasons may be extended due to playoffs and invitational games; some cheer squads operate through February.
History
La Costa Canyon Pop Warner Association has been in continuous existence since the early 1960s and is a charter member of the Palomar Conference. Formerly known as San Dieguito Pop Warner, the association served youth who eventually attended (then) San Dieguito High School. In 2007, the association changed its name and colors to match La Costa Canyon High School, the only public high school in its service area with a football team. Many current and former NFL and college football players got their start in this association.
Service Area
At one time, the association served participants in all the coastal communities from La Jolla north to La Costa. Today, LCCPW serves the communities of Cardiff, Encinitas, La Costa, Leucadia, Olivenhain, and north Rancho Santa Fe. The physical boundary follows the La Costa Canyon High School attendance boundaries, defined by the San Dieguito Union High School District as an area that, “…shall include the boundaries of the Encinitas and Cardiff school districts and the area north of Escondido Creek in the Rancho Santa Fe district.” (Source: SDUHSD Website) Participants with a residence or attending a school in this area are considered in-boundary participants. Participants outside these boundaries are encouraged to sign up with their home association. LCCPW participants from outside LCCPW’s boundary must obtain a waiver from their home Pop Warner association to play within LCCPW.
